This pair of 1930s armchairs comes from Czechoslovakia and reflects the sweeping bentwood arms and tapered legs associated with Jindřich Halabala's celebrated Type C design. The sculptural wooden armrests and angular upholstered shells give the pair a strong art deco silhouette, well suited to a living room, reading corner or entryway seating arrangement. No maker's label is visible on either chair, so the Halabala attribution is based on strong stylistic resemblance rather than a confirmed mark.
Condition and Character **Original condition with age-appropriate wear and a small amount of movement in the arms.** The bentwood armrests show surface scratches and finish wear built up over decades of use, and there is a small amount of movement where the arms meet the seat frame. The rust-orange upholstery is original to the pieces and shows fading and general wear consistent with their age. The chairs are comfortable and fully usable as is, and they offer a great base for refurbishment, which we would recommend. Please review the detailed photos closely to inspect the exact cosmetic condition before purchasing.
